Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has downplayed concerns over a visible crack on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, insisting it is not a structural failure. He clarified the damage was on an incomplete section—specifically, the shoulder—not the main carriageway.
Addressing journalists in Abuja, Mr. Umahi said over 500 messages had been received about the crack, but urged the public to disregard what he described as misinformation circulating online.

The Minister also disclosed a funding shortfall of N3 trillion for ongoing road projects previously supported under the NNPC tax credit scheme, which has now halted disbursement.
President Bola Tinubu has reportedly directed that alternative funding be secured to prevent the abandonment of any project.
Mr. Umahi also announced new measures to protect flyovers, including the installation of gantries with spikes to prevent overloaded trucks from damaging structural beams.
