The Osun State Government has appointed award-winning singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund. The initiative aims to mobilise resources to revitalise the state’s sports sector and ensure sustainable financing for athlete development.
The state’s Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, announced the appointment during a courtesy visit by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria. He said Davido accepted the role immediately, adding that his global reputation would help attract private investment and sponsorships.

Adewusi explained that the fund is part of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s broader plan to reposition sports in Osun State. He said work is underway to upgrade the Osogbo Township Stadium to Olympic standards, enabling it to host both national and international events.
He also revealed that plans are in progress to establish a State Sports Commission, which will oversee sports administration, policy, and development. Adewusi expressed confidence that the new Sports Trust Fund under Davido’s leadership would deliver lasting benefits to Osun’s sporting landscape.
