The Ministry of Defence has announced new restrictions on the importation of certain calibres of arms and ammunition into the country.
The decision aligns with the recently signed Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, DICON, Act of 2023 which aims to strengthen Nigeria’s military industrial complex by promoting local production.
Making the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja, Ibrahim Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, said all government ministries, departments, and agencies must now seek clearance from the Ministry of Defence before procuring arms and ammunition.
