Defend Yourself by November 5 or lose right to, Court Charges Kanu

The Federal High Court in Abuja has given the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, until November 5 to defend the terrorism charges against him or forfeit his right to do so.

Justice James Omotosho issued the warning after Kanu, for the fourth time, failed to enter his defence despite the prosecution closing its case and the court overruling his no-case submission.

At Monday’s proceedings, Kanu, who is representing himself, insisted there was no valid charge against him and demanded his immediate release. However, prosecuting counsel Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) urged the court not to indulge him further, accusing Kanu of deliberately wasting time.

In his ruling, Justice Omotosho allowed Kanu’s newly filed motion to stand and adjourned till November 5 for the IPOB leader to either open his defence or be deemed to have waived his right.
