Legal practitioner Dele Farotimi has filed a preliminary objection seeking to quash a defamation charge brought against him at an Ado Ekiti Magistrate Court. The objection, submitted on 9 December 2024 by his lead counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika SAN, argues that the case is legally baseless.
Mr Farotimi contends the alleged defamation of Mr Afe Babalola, SAN, and his colleagues is not recognised under Ekiti State’s Criminal Law of 2021. His filing claims the magistrate lacks jurisdiction and acted on an incompetent charge.

The case involves allegations against Mr Farotimi concerning Mr Babalola SAN, and two partners at Afe Babalola & Co. The defence team, comprising four Senior Advocates of Nigeria, asserts the charges are non-existent in law and seeks dismissal of the case.
