Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has regained his freedom after meeting bail conditions set at ₦30 million. Politician and activist Omoyele Sowore announced that Farotimi has left Ekiti prison and is on his way to his Lagos home.
Farotimi’s release comes days after a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti granted him bail. His legal troubles also included a petition filed by Emmanuel Chambers, a law firm led by Chief Afe Babalola SAN, seeking to revoke his practising licence over alleged criminal defamation and professional misconduct.

Meanwhile, the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) dismissed the petition, ruling that the alleged defamatory remarks, contained in Farotimi’s book ‘Nigeria and Criminal Justice System’, were made in his capacity as an author and not during his legal practice.
Farotimi was accused of making statements that defamed the Supreme Court and the legal profession. However, the LPDC concluded that the allegations did not warrant disciplinary action against his professional standing.
