Delta State Introduces New Dress Code for Civil Servants

The Delta State Government has introduced a revised dress code for public servants, saying the move is aimed at promoting discipline, professionalism, and integrity in the state’s civil service.

According to a circular released on Thursday, senior officers are required to lead by example, with sanctions to be applied under Public Service Rule 04314 for any breach. Male officers on Grade Level 13 and above must wear complete suits, while those on lower levels must dress in suits or shirts with ties. Traditional attire will only be allowed on Fridays and special occasions.

The directive bans bushy beards for men and resource control caps, while female officers are prohibited from wearing sleeveless or provocative dresses, exposing cleavages, or using artificial nails and long eyelashes. Gowns and skirts must be below the knee, and trousers are only allowed as part of suits.

Heads of departments have been directed to enforce the dress code strictly, with officers found in violation to be sent home or face disciplinary action. The government says the guidelines will ensure public servants project a professional image at all times.
