Nigeria’s electricity regulator says distribution companies were responsible for all casualties recorded in the country’s power sector in the first quarter of 2025.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) reported that 26 persons were affected, with Benin, Eko and Ibadan DisCos accounting for over 60 percent of the incidents.

It said the accidents—ranging from wire snaps to vandalism—led to 12 deaths and 14 injuries, while only Aba, Kano and Yola DisCos reported no casualties.
The Commission says it has launched investigations, is monitoring safety improvements, and has overseen two compensation settlements with families of victims so far this year.
