Nigerian disc jockey, Nonso Temisan Ajufo, better known as DJ Big N, has voiced concern over what he describes as the steep decline of Afrobeats on the global stage.
Speaking on ‘Echoo Room’, he said the genre is at its weakest point in two decades, blaming both artists and music executives for diluting its originality in pursuit of international appeal.

According to him, attempts to sound global have eroded the authenticity that once made Afrobeats stand out, resulting in a noticeable drop in quality and demand.
DJ Big N further criticised the growing cost of booking Nigerian artists, saying many have become unaffordable even at home. He urged musicians and record labels to rediscover the genre’s roots, warning that without originality, Afrobeats risks losing its global relevance.
