A deadly confrontation between Boko Haram’s JAS faction and the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, in Toumbun Gini, Borno State, reportedly left more than 50 ISWAP fighters dead. The clash occurred Sunday afternoon after ISWAP launched an offensive using multiple boats to seize the island, then believed to be under JAS control.
Intelligence reportedly allowed JAS fighters to mount a counter-ambush, quickly overpowering ISWAP and capturing several boats. Video clips of the aftermath have circulated online.
