DR Congo produced a remarkable turnaround in Rabat after falling behind to a third-minute strike from Onyeka. Elia dragged them level just after the half-hour mark, setting up a tense contest that stretched through 90 minutes and an additional half hour of extra time.
Neither side could find a winner, but the Congolese held their nerve in a dramatic penalty shootout, defeating Nigeria 4–3.

The victory sends DR Congo into the interconfederation play-offs, where two World Cup berths will be contested next year.
