DSS Takes Custody of El-Rufai as Court Adjourns Bail Ruling

Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, have taken custody of former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. This follows a court hearing on his bail application on Wednesday.

El-Rufai was brought to court by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, over charges of alleged fraud and money laundering filed on March 24 alongside Joel Adoga. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty.

The court reserved its ruling on the bail application until April 14. Counsel to the former governor, Oluwole Iyamu, said the defence team is hopeful of a favourable outcome.

Separately, the DSS has filed a three-count charge against el-Rufai, with a hearing scheduled for April 10 in Abuja, over allegations of unlawful interception of a telephone conversation linked to remarks he made during a television interview.
