DSVA Says No Case Against Simi Without Victims’ Testimony

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) says it cannot proceed with any case involving singer Simi without evidence or testimony from alleged victims. The response follows the resurfacing of her 2012 social media posts.

During an interview, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the agency has begun a preliminary review. She noted that prosecution would be difficult without a survivor coming forward.

The agency says cooperation from alleged victims is required to move beyond an initial review. It is urging anyone affected by sexual abuse, assault, or defilement to report and make a statement.

The controversy began after old posts resurfaced when Simi spoke out against rape. She says the comments were innocent and misinterpreted, and maintains she has always opposed sexual violence.
