Dynamite Explosion in Niger State Claims One Life, Six Injured

A dynamite explosion in Sabon-Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, has left one person dead and six others injured. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the explosion stemmed from dynamite linked to illegal mining activities. The victim, Fatima Sadauki, lost her life, while six others sustained injuries and were rushed to the General Hospital, Kainji, for treatment. 

The blast also damaged 12 houses in the area.

Niger State Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Danmamman, has ordered a full investigation into the matter. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit has been deployed to assess the scene.

The suspect believed to have stored the dynamite remains at large.
