Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has directed all political appointees seeking to contest the forthcoming local government elections to resign their positions, warning that failure to comply could lead to disqualification from party primaries. The directive was announced by the Ebonyi State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha.
Chief Emegha spoke after a State Executive Council meeting and the groundbreaking ceremony of the APC permanent secretariat in Abakaliki. He said the governor’s decision was aimed at preventing avoidable litigations that could undermine the credibility of the local government elections.
He added that the directive forms part of measures to ensure fairness, transparency and compliance with electoral guidelines, stressing that the party would not tolerate actions capable of triggering post-election court disputes.

Chief Emegha also said the party approved timelines for its congresses and primaries, beginning at the ward level and progressing through local government, zonal and state levels to the national convention in March. He said the APC would adopt Option A4 and the delegate system, retain the ₦25 million nomination fee for chairmanship aspirants, and limit the sale of forms to two or three aspirants per local government area.
