The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has relaxed the curfew in Amasiri, Afikpo Local Government Area, following recent killings in the area. The restriction, which had run from 2 p.m. to 10 a.m., will now be in force from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. The governor announced the change on Tuesday after a State Security Council meeting in Abakaliki.
The curfew was imposed after an attack on Okporojo in Oso-Edda, Edda Local Government Area, on 29 January 2026, in which at least four people were reportedly beheaded and houses set on fire. Governor Nwifuru said suspects arrested in connection with the killings would be prosecuted, while schools in Amasiri remain closed as investigations continue.

He had earlier dismissed government appointees from Amasiri, dissolved community leadership structures, and withdrawn the certificate of the traditional ruler. The governor said further measures would be taken if the severed heads of the victims are not produced following a 72 hour ultimatum.
