The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has suspended Uchenna Igwe, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, over alleged gross misconduct and dereliction of duty, effectively immediately.

Governor Nwifuru disclosed this while briefing journalists at the New Government House, Ochudo Centenary City, Abakaliki. It was alleged that Igwe failed to carry out an assignment concerning local government pension payments by a council chairman in the state.

This latest action brings the number of recently suspended commissioners to four. Late last month, Governor Nwifuru indefinitely suspended the commissioners for housing and urban development, water resources, and issued a three-month suspension for the health commissioner, citing dereliction of duty and gross misconduct.
