The Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, CPPE, has urged the Federal Government to immediately reinstate the suspended 15 percent fuel import duty, warning that its removal threatens Nigeria’s refining sector and weakens investor confidence. In a statement issued by its Chief Executive, Muda Yusuf, the organisation said the policy shift gives imported petroleum products an unfair advantage, placing domestic refineries — including the Dangote Refinery and emerging modular plants — at a significant competitive disadvantage.
The CPPE said reinstating the duty is essential to restoring balance and safeguarding long-term industrial and energy security. It stressed that protecting domestic refining capacity is a national priority.

The intervention follows last week’s announcement by the petroleum regulatory authority suspending the proposed duty on petrol and diesel, while assuring Nigerians of adequate nationwide supply.
