EFCC Appeals Court Order Releasing 27 Seized Properties

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has filed an appeal against a Federal High Court ruling ordering the release of 27 properties to two individuals.
The assets were initially seized in March after the EFCC secured an interim forfeiture order covering properties located in several parts of the country.

James Ikechukwu Okwete and his company, Jamec West African Limited, claim ownership of 26 of the houses, while Adebukunola Iyabode Oladapo is listed as the owner of one property in Wuse 2, Abuja. On Wednesday, the court cautioned EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede for allegedly failing to comply with the subsisting judgment.

In response, the EFCC has now filed a notice of appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, challenging the October 31 ruling delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik. Lead counsel Abba Mohammed is also seeking a stay of execution pending the determination of the appeal.

According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the case is currently awaiting a hearing at the appellate court.
