The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Jude Okoye, the elder brother and former manager of the defunct music group Psquare, on charges of laundering N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59. He was arraigned alongside his company, Northside Music Ltd, on Wednesday before Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Okoye pleaded not guilty to the seven-count charge. His lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, informed the court of a pending bail application and requested that his client be remanded in EFCC custody until the bail hearing. However, EFCC’s prosecution counsel, Larry Peters Aso, opposed the request, citing congestion at the agency’s facility and urging the court to remand Okoye in a correctional centre.

Justice Owoeye ruled in favour of the prosecution and ordered that Okoye be remanded at the Ikoyi correctional facility. The judge then adjourned the case to 28 February for a bail hearing.
The trial is set to commence on 14 April, as the EFCC continues its prosecution of Okoye and Northside Music Ltd over the alleged financial crimes.
