EFCC arrests 10 over alleged illegal mining in Kwara State

Our Investigations Not Politically Motivated, says EFCC

Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested 10 people over alleged involvement in illegal mining activities in Kwara State. The arrests followed intelligence on unlawful excavation and transportation of solid minerals.

The suspects were apprehended along the Ilorin Ogbomosho highway and comprise nine truck drivers and one escort. The EFCC said the operation was carried out in a well-coordinated manner.

In a statement, the Head of Media and Publicity of the commission, Dele Oyewale, said solid minerals recovered from the suspects included lithium, tin and lepidolite. He said the suspects failed to present valid licences, permits or regulatory approvals for their activities.
