EFCC Arrests 20 for Vote Buying, Recovers 17 Million Naira in FCT Poll

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it arrested 20 suspects for alleged vote buying and other electoral offences during Saturday’s area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory. 

The commission said its operatives recovered more than 17 million naira from some of the suspects. One suspect was found with 13.5 million naira in a vehicle parked near a polling unit in Kwali.

According to the EFCC, two suspects were arrested in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje and four in Kwali. The agency said all suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

The FCT council elections recorded low voter turnout and allegations of malpractice from the African Democratic Congress.
