EFCC arrests fake agent over ₦11 million football trial scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it has arrested a suspected fraudster, Osagie Destiny Etinosa, for allegedly defrauding a footballer of eleven million naira in Benin City. The arrest was announced on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

The agency says Etinosa allegedly posed as a football agent on social media, promising to secure trials for Samuel Beke Ohazuruike with clubs in Romania and Bulgaria. The EFCC says the trials never materialised and efforts by the victim to recover his money were unsuccessful.

According to the commission, the suspect was tracked and arrested using intelligence gathered from open sources. He is expected to be arraigned in court soon.

In a separate case, the EFCC says it has also arrested Fatima Muhammed in Maiduguri over the alleged mutilation of the naira. The arrest followed a viral video showing her using a five hundred naira note inappropriately. The commission says investigations are ongoing.
