Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have taken Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), into custody at his home in Abuja.
The arrest occurred at approximately 4:46 pm on Wednesday, according to the Daily Trust. The precise charges against the professor, a renowned expert in haematology-oncology and bone marrow transplantation, have not yet been disclosed.

Professor Yusuf, who was dismissed from his position as NHIS Executive Secretary in 2019 by then-President Muhammadu Buhari, had faced recommendations for dismissal from a Federal Ministry of Health panel. The panel’s investigation centred around allegations of mismanagement of N919 million.
