EFCC dismisses 27 officers over alleged fraudulent activities

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has terminated the appointments of 27 officers over allegations of fraud and misconduct.

In a statement issued on Monday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the dismissals were approved by the commission’s chairman, Ola Olukoyede, following recommendations from its disciplinary committee.

Mr. Oyewale emphasised the EFCC’s commitment to investigating misconduct within its ranks, revealing an ongoing probe into a senior officer over a matter concerning $400,000.

He also highlighted cases of extortion involving individuals falsely claiming to represent the EFCC chairman. Two suspects, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, were recently charged at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja for attempting to extort $1 million from a former Nigerian Ports Authority managing director, Mohammed Bello-Koko, over a fictitious investigation.
