Efforts to Broker Gaza Ceasefire Face Hurdles Despite Recent Progress

The gulf between Israel and Hamas over a potential ceasefire in Gaza has narrowed, officials from both sides indicated on Monday, though significant obstacles remain unresolved.  

A renewed push led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to end the hostilities and secure the release of Israeli and foreign hostages has yet to deliver a breakthrough, despite gaining momentum in recent weeks.

Addressing Israel’s Knesset, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged progress in hostage negotiations with Hamas but cautioned that the timeline for tangible outcomes remained uncertain.  

The Israeli Prime Minister emphasized Israel’s military achievements across multiple fronts, attributing the shift in Hamas’s stance to sustained military pressure. He noted that this had forced Hamas leaders to moderate their previous demands, though further concessions and agreements are still pending.
