Eight suspected criminal elements have been arrested in Kogi State during joint security operations involving the police, the Nigerian Army, local hunters and vigilante groups. The arrests followed coordinated bush-combing exercises across forested and remote areas of the state.
The Kogi State Police Command said the operation was carried out as part of ongoing intelligence-led efforts to detect, disrupt and dismantle criminal networks. Police spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Lokoja.
According to the police, ground operations were supported by aerial surveillance, which helped to identify and neutralise suspected bandit camps and hideouts. Security forces said some suspected criminals fled the areas, abandoning their enclaves, while eight suspects were arrested at different locations for questioning.

Police said preliminary investigations suggest some of those arrested may be informants for kidnapping syndicates operating in the area. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, while the police assured residents that security has been reinforced and urged the public to report suspicious activities promptly.
