Eighteen people have been confirmed dead following a multiple-vehicle road traffic accident along the Dutse–Kwanar Babaldu highway in Jigawa State. The crash occurred on Tuesday and involved three vehicles.
The Federal Road Safety Corps said a Volkswagen vehicle conveying passengers suffered a tyre burst, causing the driver to lose control and collide with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. A truck then ran into the two vehicles, crushing them on impact.
Confirming the incident, the FRSC Sector Commander in Jigawa, Umar Matazu, said the accident happened suddenly and left little chance for escape. He said those killed included adult males, females and children.

Emergency responders and security personnel were deployed to the scene to rescue survivors and clear the road. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals, while the remains of the deceased were evacuated, as the FRSC urged motorists to ensure vehicle roadworthiness and observe speed limits.
