Former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is worse than any military regime Nigeria has experienced. He made the remarks while hosting former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar over the weekend.
El-Rufai, whose party event was recently disrupted by thugs in Kaduna, accused the Tinubu government of centralising power rather than deepening federalism. He likened the President’s style of leadership to that of Cameroon’s Paul Biya, warning that Nigeria risked sliding into authoritarian rule.

Praising Atiku’s role in Nigeria’s democratic struggles, El-Rufai said opposition leaders must unite to prevent what he described as an attempt by the ruling party to entrench itself in power beyond 2027. He called on Atiku to provide leadership in rallying opposition parties.
In response, Atiku commended El-Rufai and urged opposition groups to remain focused on removing President Tinubu through the ballot box in the next general election. He stressed the need for unity, discipline and commitment to democratic principles.
