Chairman of the United Bank for Africa, Tony Elumelu, has cancelled his annual TOE All-White Party in honour of the victims of the September fire at Afriland Towers in Lagos. The fire incident at the Broad Street high-rise claimed the lives of six staff.
In a message posted on his Instagram story, Elumelu said he and his wife, Awele, reached the difficult decision to suspend this year’s celebration. He noted that the moment calls for reflection and compassion rather than festivities.
Elumelu said the period will be dedicated to remembering and honouring those who lost their lives in the tragedy. He added that the victims will remain forever in their hearts.
