All those who remain in northern Gaza, especially children, are at imminent risk of dying from disease, famine and ongoing bombardments there. This is according to UNICEF’s Executive Director, Catherine Russell.
In a statement Saturday, she said at least 50 children were reportedly killed Friday and Saturday in Jabalya, where two residential buildings in which hundreds of people sought shelter were hit by strikes.
In response to questions about the strike, the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that it was focused on dismantling Hamas’ military capabilities while adhering to international law and minimising civilian harm.
The World Health Organization also reported an attack on Saturday on a health-care centre in Gaza City where a polio vaccination drive was taking place. At least six people, including four children, were injured, the WHO’s chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said, adding that the attack took place during a humanitarian pause that Israel agreed to.
