The Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a reduction in electricity tariffs for Band A customers under the new provider, MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited. The revised tariff drops from ₦209 to ₦160 per kilowatt-hour and takes effect from the 1st of August, 2025.
The Commission said the reduction reflects the federal government’s generation subsidy and follows a detailed review of MainPower’s tariff application using the 2024 Tariff Methodology Regulations. Band A will now pay ₦160, while tariffs for Bands B to E remain frozen.

Chairman of the Commission, Chijioke Okonkwo, said the new rates are cost-reflective but warned that they may rise if the federal subsidy is removed. He added that savings from the current subsidy will help stabilise tariffs over time without the need for state funding.
To ensure accountability, MainPower is required to publish daily power supply records and meet service commitments on Band A feeders. If service drops below the expected level for seven straight days, the affected feeder will be automatically downgraded.
