Residents of Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, largely stayed indoors on Monday, with many businesses remaining closed in response to a Sit-At-Home directive. Some civil servants were also absent from work, especially those who rely on public transportation. Despite the disruption, there were no reports of violence, and security personnel from Operation Crush patrolled the city to maintain peace.

In contrast, the Enugu State Government commended its residents for defying the sit-at-home order. During a joint press conference with security agencies, officials praised the people for rejecting actions by what they described as “enemies of progress.” They noted that Enugu has moved past the stage of such disruptions.

Professor Chidiebere Onyia, Secretary to the Enugu State Government, reassured that Enugu remains open for business and encouraged private sector investment.

Despite the government’s stance, our correspondent, Chibuike Peter who monitored goings on, reports that Enugu City saw limited business, human, and vehicular activity, particularly in the morning, with normalcy only gradually returning by evening.
