Eric Chelle Insists Super Eagles Must Defeat South Africa to Stay in World Cup Race

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has emphasised the importance of securing victory over South Africa in September as the Super Eagles fight to keep their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification hopes alive.

Chelle insists that anything less than a win against Bafana Bafana is not an option, with Nigeria trailing the group leaders by six points and only four matches remaining in the qualification campaign.

South Africa currently top Group C with 13 points from six games, having strengthened their position with successive victories over Lesotho and Benin in March.

Nigeria, meanwhile, kept their campaign alive with a 2-0 away win against Rwanda but were left frustrated after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Zimbabwe.
