The European Union (EU) has unveiled plans to launch new projects worth €300 million in Nigeria’s North West and North East regions in 2025, aimed at empowering youth and women.
Gautier Mignot, the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, announced the initiative during the 2025 annual Europe Day celebration in Abuja. He emphasised the EU’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Nigeria through its EU Global Gateway strategy, which focuses on trade, investment, and regional development.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, commended the EU’s investment, noting that the €300 million initiative will support ongoing efforts to address restiveness and foster empowerment, particularly among Nigerian youth.
The EU has been a longstanding partner to Nigeria, with previous interventions in sectors such as peacebuilding, education, and climate action.
