The European Union has issued a strong condemnation of recent attacks on United Nations peacekeepers stationed in Lebanon, firmly rejecting Israeli claims that the U.N. presence is obstructing military operations against Hezbollah.

Since the onset of Israel’s ground campaign against Hezbollah, five U.N. peacekeepers have sustained injuries from attacks, the majority of which have been attributed to Israeli forces. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has said that any assault on U.N. personnel is completely unacceptable.

Israel’s military operations have intensified amid ongoing conflicts, not only with Hezbollah but also in Gaza, where it has been engaged in a sustained offensive.

Recent reports from local health authorities in Gaza indicate that over 42,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza offensive, which has also resulted in widespread destruction across the territory and displaced approximately 90% of its population of 2.3 million.
