Europe Vows To Stand Firm With Ukraine On War Anniversary

European leaders have pledged to stand firm with Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The show of support comes as the war continues with no clear end in sight.

In the town of Bucha near Kyiv, where dozens of bodies were found in the early weeks of the invasion, Ukrainians held a memorial to honour those killed. The town has become a symbol of the conflict and the heavy toll on civilians.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin warned that Ukraine and its allies are pushing the conflict further and would regret their actions. Meanwhile, Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz said China has a significant opportunity to influence Moscow and help bring the war to an end.

The World Bank has raised its estimate for Ukraine’s reconstruction to $588 billion. In Geneva, dozens of delegates walked out during a speech by Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations disarmament conference, in protest over the ongoing war.
