Evacuation order in Gaza’s Deir al-Balah disrupts U.N.’s aid efforts

The U.N.’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, known as OCHA, has said an order by Israel’s military to evacuate parts of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza has displaced humanitarian workers and severely impacted the organisation’s ability to deliver essential support and services.

The evacuation order has shrunk the size of the humanitarian zone that Israel declared at the outset of its attacks on Gaza. The orders, which cram Palestinians into smaller areas, have escalated concerns about hunger and the spread of disease in crowded tent camps that in some cases lack access to food and clean water, aid groups say.

The mayor of Deir al-Balah said an estimated 1 million displaced people and residents are living in the city, which, according to him, is surrounded by Israeli tanks and warplanes.
