A former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, is urging the Federal Government to explore a non-kinetic approach in dealing with banditry in Nigeria.
Speaking in a television programme monitored by Radio Now’s newsdesk, Mr. Shittu, a member of cabinet in the Buhari administration, said the millions of out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria is a “production factory for banditry” in the country.

He also said society had abandoned the bandits over the years, and as citizens of Nigeria, they should be given a chance through training and deradicalisation.
Towing the line of logic of Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, Mr. Shittu says the government should enter negotiations with the bandits to the end of resettling, rehabilitating and retraining them.
