Ex-NMDC Chief Arraigned Over Alleged N100m Contract Fraud

A former Director General of the National Metallurgical Development Centre, NMDC, Jos, Professor Linus Okon Asuquo, has been arraigned at a Federal High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State, over alleged corruption and unlawful award of public contracts. He was docked on Tuesday alongside three others before Justice Dorcas Agishi.

Those charged include Okonkwo Thaddeus Anthony, Etim James Amana, Valentino Resources Limited and MIS Software Nigeria Limited. The Federal Government filed a 10-count charge through the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, accusing the defendants of abuse of office, reckless award of contracts, approval of payments without due process and money laundering. The prosecution alleged that the offences were committed between February and October 2022 while Professor Asuquo was serving as Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the NMDC.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to all charges. Justice Agishi granted them bail in the sum of twenty-five million naira each, with one surety in like sum, and ordered them to deposit their international passports with the court. The case was adjourned until 24 February 2026 for the commencement of trial.
