Former Osun State deputy governor Mr. Benedict Alabi has formally announced his bid for the August 2026 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Speaking in Osogbo, Mr. Alabi explained that he delayed his declaration to allow clarity on whether former governor Gboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, would contest. With Oyetola stepping aside, he said he was confident of his chances.

Mr. Alabi dismissed claims that Oyetola had a preferred aspirant, describing such speculation as mere “street talk”. He added that his political structure and capacity give him a strong pathway to clinch both the APC ticket and the governorship.
Outlining his agenda, Mr. Alabi promised 40,000 new jobs by 2030 across agriculture, ICT, and industry, alongside investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
