Two people have died, and 44 others sustained injuries in a gunpowder explosion at Talata-Mafara Market, Zamfara State. The explosion, which occurred on Tuesday, triggered panic as traders and shoppers fled for safety in the busy marketplace.
According to an eyewitness account, the blast originated from a shop dealing in locally fabricated firearms. Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Talata-Mafara Local Government, Yahaya Yari, said the injured victims had been referred to Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto for medical treatment.

In response to the incident, Yari announced an immediate ban on the sale of locally made firearms in the market. He stated that this was the third such explosion in the area and directed the Divisional Police Officer to enforce the ban.
