Falana Demands Bawa’s Release

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana SAN, is demanding for the release of Abdulrasheed Bawa, from the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS).

The suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has spent more than 67 days in detention without any charges and trial.

According to Mr Falana, the remand order pertaining to Mr Bawa has expired and his continued detention is against the provisions of section 493 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, as well as section 35 of the Constitution.

Under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, the cumulative lifespan of a remand order is 56 days.

Mr. Falana is calling on the Federal Government to charge Mr. Bawa before a court of competent jurisdiction, if there is evidence that he has committed any criminal offence.
