Faulty Arik Air Lagos-Port Harcourt Flight Diverts to Benin Airport after Engine Anomaly

An Arik Air Boeing 737-700 aircraft operating Lagos to Port Harcourt flight, today diverted to Benin airport after the crew said they heard a loud bang from the left engine.

In a statement, Arik Air said the aircraft, operating flight W3-740 with registration 5N-MJF, was descending into Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, when the incident occurred.

According to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB)’s statement, the crew detected abnormal indications on one of the engines during the cruise phase of flight causing the flight crew to conduct a precautionary engine shutdown and divert to the nearest suitable airport, Benin.
