FCCPC Launches Joint Committee to Tackle Counterfeit Products

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has inaugurated a joint inter-agency committee to create a digital traceability portal that will assign unique QR codes to products.

The initiative, unveiled in Abuja on Wednesday, aims to curb counterfeit goods and enhance supply chain transparency nationwide. Kola Alabi, FCCPC executive commissioner of corporate services, said the portal will promote product authenticity and accountability.

The committee includes representatives from the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Anti-Counterfeiting Collaboration (ACC). The agencies will work together to deliver a robust solution for traceability and consumer protection.

The FCCPC said the portal will build trust, combat fake goods, and promote fair market practices, in line with the commission’s mandate under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018.
