FCCPC Seals Ikeja Electric Over Alleged Consumer Rights Violations

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has sealed the premises of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company in Alausa, Lagos, over alleged violations of consumer rights. The commission said the action followed repeated attempts to resolve the dispute under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act of 2018.

FCCPC Director of Surveillance and Investigation, Bola Adeyinka, said the facility would remain sealed until Ikeja Electric complies fully with directives issued by both the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the FCCPC, including providing written evidence of compliance.

According to the commission, NERC earlier issued a binding decision directing Ikeja Electric to separate a Maximum Demand account into twenty non-Maximum Demand accounts, provide metering, and restore supply to nineteen residential units and a service point owned by a complainant. The commission said the customer had been without power for more than two and a half years despite fulfilling all obligations.

The FCCPC added that its enforcement followed warnings, a compliance directive issued in April 2025, and a notice issued on 2 October requiring full compliance within seven business days. Ikeja Electric has yet to comment on the development.
