The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has warned inter-city road transport operators against arbitrary and unexplained fare increases during the yuletide season. The warning follows a rise in consumer complaints across the country over sharp transport fare hikes.
In a statement, the FCCPC Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, said the complaints were recorded despite recent reductions in the pump price of premium motor spirit in some locations. He acknowledged that seasonal demand and operational pressures could affect pricing, but stressed that consumers are entitled to clear and timely information on fares before travelling.
