FCT Minister Wike Revokes Nearly 4,800 Land Titles Over Unpaid Ground Rent

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has revoked 4,794 land titles due to non-payment of ground rent for more than 40 years.

Authorities say a further 8,375 property owners in key districts, including the Central Area, Garki, Wuse, Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape, have also failed to pay in the last 43 years.

Announcing the decision, the minister’s senior special assistant on public communications, Lere Olayinka, and the FCT Administration’s director of lands, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, confirmed that properties with outstanding payments of 10 years or more have had their titles revoked with immediate effect.

A grace period of 21 days has been granted to those who owe between one and ten years’ rent, after which their titles will also be revoked if payments are not made.
