Pregnant women residing in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory are now eligible for free health insurance and caesarean sections under a new initiative announced by the FCT Administration.
The Mandate Secretary for Health Services, Dr Adedolapo Fasewa, made the disclosure in Abuja on Monday during an event marking the 2025 World Health Day, held at the Gwarimpa District Hospital.

According to Dr Fasewa, access to the free caesarean procedures will be granted to women enrolled in the FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS). The package also extends to postnatal care for newborns, aimed at improving early childhood outcomes.
She called on women across the capital to take advantage of the offer, stressing that efforts to curb maternal mortality require shared responsibility and cannot rest solely with the Federal Government.
The initiative forms part of a broader drive to strengthen healthcare delivery across the territory and support vulnerable populations with access to essential medical services.
