FCTA Alleges Naval Officers Threatened Staff During Abuja Demolition Exercise

Officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration have accused armed naval personnel of threatening to shoot staff of the Development Control Department during an enforcement operation in Gaduwa District, Abuja. The team, led by Director Mukhtar Galadima, had attempted to seal an illegal construction site reportedly linked to a former naval chief.

Mr. Galadima said the confrontation began when his officers requested valid title documents, but none were produced. Instead, developers presented only a 2007 letter of intent for park maintenance, which, according to the FCTA, does not confer ownership or building rights.

He said the matter was reported to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who ordered the site sealed. Officials later confirmed the land title had long been revoked and the ongoing development deemed illegal.
